So! At the end of March and into April my eldest daughter and I took a trip together. If you follow me on Instagram at @sallythurrell or @sallytphotography you may be up to date with where we visited, what we saw and how it went.. and you can see the outline of our plans over on my personal family blog here.
In short, we started in Geneva, Switzerland, and went on to Montreux, Zermatt, Zurich, Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest (where my husband and baby met us for the final few days). It was a well-planned whirlwind and such a mix of exploring, trying to push my photography and develop my own skills, eating all the amazing food those places had to offer and take some quality time together.
I'm going to be blogging from a photography perspective on here, and simultaneously blogging from a more personal perspective over on my family blog here, where I'll go into more detail about our trip and provide links and recommendations for each place.
We started with Geneva. I'd been when I was younger and, to be honest, I didn't think there would be a huge amount to do but when looking at our journey as a whole it was a good place to start taking flights and transfers into consideration. I underestimated just how much I'd enjoy exploring Geneva - it ended up being a highlight of the whole trip (maybe it was combined with the excitement of it being our first destination too).
Above is 'La Jonction', which is the point where the rivers Arve and Rhone meet - the waters are completely different colours and it was so bizarre to see in real life! Worth the 45-minute walk uphill to get to this point, as I'm sure Vivienne (my daughter) would agree..
We walked from La Jonction to the old town, and climbed the steep and spiralling steps to the viewing platforms of Cathedral St. Pierre, and reached a point where we were overlooking the entire city. The Jet D'Eau, Lake Geneva and all the rooftops were wonderful to see.
We ate crepes, frites.. wandered around the city, walked through parks and watched locals fishing, we walked down to see the jet and the harbour.. and late afternoon we collected our cases and jumped on a train to head an hour around the lake to stay the next day in Montreux.
NEXT STOP - MONTREUX
